Have you got Britain’s Best Balcony? Share your images to win a prize worth £1,000

Have you transformed your balcony during lockdown? If so, you could win £1,000 in vouchers at a home retailer in our new competition.

Get Living has launched a contest to find Britain’s best balcony. All you need to do to be in with a shot of winning is to upload before and after photos of your balcony transformation to Instagram using the hashtag #BalconyMoment.

To give you some inspiration, we helped three households in East Village with eye-popping dream makeovers! One balcony was converted into a luxe Miami poolside, while another received a theatrical overhaul, perfect for both people watching and performing!

The last balcony makeover was themed around a bespoke wilderness outpost, offering the chance to spot all the local flora and fauna of East Village while camouflaged by foliage.

We were inspired to launch the competition after residents made incredible use of their balconies during the lockdown, including Phoebe Haines, who performed amazing classical renditions of songs such as You’ll Never Walk Alone.

And it’s not just East Village where people have been getting in on the act. Our research shows that 63% of people have grown to appreciate their outdoor space more since lockdown, and 69% of people have taken the chance to decorate their space.

Get Living’s hunt for Britain’s best balcony aims to celebrate the best in design, creativity and use of space.

The competition is open to anyone with an outdoor space at home and invites people to share photos of their transformed space on Instagram using the hashtag #BalconyMoment and tagging @SimplyGetLiving in the caption.

The winner will receive a £1,000 prize to spend at the home retailer of their choice. Upload your photos by midnight on 1st September 2020 to be in with a shot.

“Seeing the creativity on display has been fantastic, and with the hot summer weather here, there’s never been a better time to spruce up your balcony and enter our competition.”

To enter the competition:

  • Post a carousel photo on Instagram showing your before and after pictures of your balcony
  • Tag @SimplyGetLiving in the image caption and use the hashtag #BalconyMoment

 

**For those in rented accomodation, please check with your landlord before undertaking any DIY projects to ensure these meet health and safety requirements and do not put you in breach of your tenancy agreement terms.

Terms and Conditions

This Get Living ‘Britain’s Best Balcony Competition’ (the “Promotion”), is for adults over the age of 18 to submit images of their balconies by sharing before and after images of their balcony on Instagram (a carousel post on the main feed, not Instagram Story) tagging @simplygetliving in the image caption and using the hashtag #BalconyMoment by midnight on 1tst September.

All entrants must provide additional information when requested to Get Living and affiliated bodies within deadlines set below to be considered for final judging.

Please read the following terms and conditions carefully. These terms and conditions govern the Promotion.

  1. The Promotion is open to UK residents only, aged 18 and over, except employees of the Promoter, their families, agents or anyone professionally connected with the Promotion.
  2. To take part in the Promotion, upload before and after photos of your balcony to Instagram, tagging @simplygetliving in the caption and using the hashtag #BalconyMoment
  3. There is no entry fee and no purchase is necessary to enter the Promotion.
  4. The Promotion will run from 9am (GMT) on Tuesday 4th August 2020 until midnight (GMT) on Tuesday 1st September 2020. This period will be known as the Promotion Period.  Any entries outside the Promotion Period will not be counted.
  5. The entrant will be contacted by Direct Message on Instagram by Midday (GMT) on Friday 11th September 2020 to be informed if they have won.
  6. Additional entrants may be also be contacted by Direct Message by Midday (GMT) on Friday 11th September 2020 to be informed if their entries will be used in a ‘Best of’ press release rounding up the outstanding entries, to be shared with national, lifestyle, local and online media.
  7. The entrant must respond to the Direct Message or Private Message by Midday (GMT) on Friday 18th September 2020 to be counted in the Promotion.
  8. The prize winner will be selected by a panel of judges, including representatives of the Promoter. The selection process and judging criteria will be subject to the Promoter’s and the judges’ discretion.
  9. There is one prize of a voucher for a homewares store worth £1,000, to be mutually agreed between the Promoter and the entrant.
  10. The prize is not transferable, re-saleable or exchangeable. There is no cash alternative.
  11. In uploading photos of their balconies tagging @simplygetliving in the caption and using the hashtag #BalconyMoment, entrants agree to the use of his/her name, image and photos of the balcony in any publicity material, including the Promoter’s social channels.
  12. The winner must:
    1. Agree and accept that the Promoter will not be liable for any damage, injury, or loss which is suffered by the winner as a result of their participation in the Promotion (to the fullest extent permitted by law).
    2. Give consent for Get Living to take and use the Content freely, use the Content anywhere in the world, use the Content for commercial or non-commercial purposes, in any media format (whether known now or yet to be invented). Typical media formats include: (i) in Get Living printed publications, presentations, promotional materials, internal and external communications, (ii) in the advertising of Get Living’s goods or services, or (iii) on Get Living’s website. The winner understands and accepts that other media formats other than those listed may be used, and agrees that Get Living may use the Content in its original format or edited or altered in any way which Get Living deems appropriate. The winner consents to Get Living storing copies of the Content on its database.
  13. The decision of the Promoter in relation to the Promotion is final. No correspondence will be entered into.
  14. No information regarding entries or judging will be disclosed to any third party not involved in the conduct of the Promotion.
  15. The Promoter reserves the right to substitute any of the prize products subject to availability.
  16. By entering, participants will be deemed to have accepted and be bound by the Terms and Conditions. All entry instructions form part of these Terms and Conditions.
  17. No entries from agents, third parties, organised groups or applications automatically generated by computers will be accepted. No incomplete or corrupted entries will be accepted. Any entries not in accordance with the entry instructions will be rejected.
  18. In the event of unforeseen circumstances the Promoter reserves the right to offer alternative prizes of equal or greater value.
  19. The Promoter reserves the right to amend, alter or terminate this promotion at any time due to circumstances beyond its control.
  20. The Promoter’s decision is final and binding in all matters relating to the Promotion.
  21. The Promoter can accept no responsibility for, and reserves the right to refuse, entries which are corrupt, incomplete or fail to arrive by the closing date.
  22. No social media website (such as Instagram or any other such website) are sponsors of the Promotion and have no responsibility or liability regarding the conduct or administration of the Promotion. The promotion is in no way sponsored, endorsed or administered by, or associated with, Instagram
  23. These rules are governed by English law and subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English Courts.
