On Saturday 20 September, Get Living London hosted the very first East Village E20 Fair to banish the end of summer blues. The day brought together more than 1,000 residents and locals for the very best of fair activities inspired by the traditional British Village Fete, including a tombola, face painting and a coconut shy, as well as some more quirky and experimental workshops and stalls.
The Fair transformed Victory Park, the central park and hub of the E20 community, into an urban fairy-tale landscape designed by Hannah Geller. Trees were draped in fabric and urban bunting, while the main stage was created from boat sails hung from trees.
Kardioke from the House of Hot Breath fused together sport, art and music into the ultimate party mix, challenging people to sing karaoke while running on a cross trainer. For those better with words than lyrics, Human Mega Scrabble sat alongside live screen printing from Print Club London, where visitors could print their own specially designed image; and a mini Vintage and Crafts market from Rosy Chic.
Hungry fair-goers enjoyed food and drink a variety of street food favourites from food vans. There was a special ice cream challenge – the Bicycle-Powered Ice Cream, which offered sweet-lovers the chance to pedal their way to a well-deserved treat. Meanwhile, for the music enthusiasts there was the Recycled Drumming Workshop, which invited participants to try-out their musical skills on household items.
