A pet-friendly Manchester rental neighbourhood is hosting a ‘RuPaws Dog Race’ contest to find the city’s most fabulous pooch.

New Maker Yards in Salford is encouraging dog owners to drag up their dogs in a safe manner for the contest on Thursday 9 September, which will see prizes handed out to a winner and two runners-up.

To launch the contest, two marvellous Maltipoos – Belle and Minnie – posed in gorgeous sparkly costumes with Manchester drag legend Liquorice Black at Seven Bro7thers Middlewood Locks Beerhouse, where the event is being held next week on Thursday 9 September from 7pm.

Those looking to head to the event should book their place and email [email protected] if they would like their pooch to participate.

The dog catwalk will take place at 7.45pm, and will be followed by a night of fabulous drag entertainment from Mars Montana and Heiress Blackstone – the hosts of all three of Get Living’s events coined the ‘Drag Show Extravaganza’ taking place this month across its locations in Manchester and London.

Judged by Mars and Heiress, the first prize winner will receive a £40 voucher for Seven Bro7hers; second place will be awarded a treat box courtesy of Manchester dog deli, Betty & Butch, followed by a fetching rainbow lead for third place. Tickets cost just £3, with all proceeds from ticket sales going to LGBT+ mental health support charity Mind Out.

Eoin Thomas, Community and Events Lead at Get Living’s New Maker Yards, commented: “Whether your dog is primed and ready for the pup-arazzi or a little ruff around the edges, we’re calling on all dog owners in the area to take part in this fabulous event!

“Like all Get Living neighbourhoods, New Maker Yards is completely pet-friendly, so we wanted to celebrate that and give our resident pooches a chance to shine as part of this month’s Drag events, as well as to keeping the Pride celebrations going.”

New Maker Yards offers fully-furnished homes to rent by Get Living, located in between the two buzzing cities of Manchester and Salford, within Middlewood Locks, M5. This autumn, Get Living will be bringing a further 500 new homes to rent and an additional amenity space for residents to use for co-working.
