'Reflections I': A Free Interactive Art Experience in East Village

January 13, 2026

Discover Reflections I, a living artwork by London-based artist Russ Jones and created for East Village. Shaped by everyone who takes part, this mirrored cube acts as a shared space for reflection, creativity and connection.

Set within Victory Park, Reflections I sits at the heart of East Village, a neighbourhood built around community and shared experiences. This free interactive installation invites people to stop, reflect and participate in a shared creative experience. It transforms East Village into a space for self-expression and optimism at a time when many are setting intentions for the year ahead.

Each side of the 2.4-metre cube invites visitors to respond in a different way:

  • Write something you love about yourself
  • Answer the question: “Is this art?”
  • Leave a doodle, thought or message
  • Mark your favourite local spot on the map of London

There’s no right answer. Just take a moment, pick up a pen and add your voice.

As more people take part, the cube will slowly change – transforming from a clean, reflective surface into a colourful, collective portrait of the community around it. By the end of its time at East Village, the cube will tell a story made up of hundreds of small moments – thoughts, drawings, jokes, hopes and observations – all layered together.

Originally the London 2012 Olympic Village, East Village has grown into a diverse, open community surrounded by green space, independent retailers and cultural venues. This installation brings that spirit to life in a simple but powerful way: by inviting everyone to take part.

About the artist

Russ Jones (b. 1990, Wolverhampton, UK) is a London-based painter and conceptual artist whose work examines the human condition through recurring themes of identity, freedom, and control.

Drawing on his background as a soldier and counter-terrorism officer, Russ Jones reflects a unique perspective on humanity’s complex relationships with societal structures such as power, nationhood, economics, and language.

His practice spans public interventions and painting, using repetition, mass production, subversion, and interactivity to explore subjects such as self-awareness, loneliness, and mortality.

Russ Jones’ conceptual works frequently appear in public space, where they are designed to shift the viewer’s behaviour and perception, while his paintings investigate identity, memory, and narrative through layered colour and gesture.
