It’s the weird but wonderful food combo that somehow just works according to many people: dipping a hot, salty McDonald’s French fries into cold milkshake.
But now London’s East Village has taken it one step further in a world-first recipe revelation, creating a French-fry flavoured milkshake made from actual potato… and what’s more, it’s actually delicious!
Made from vanilla ice cream, chocolate syrup, cream, a dash of salt and potatoes, the shake even comes with chocolate-coated French fries for dipping. To invite people to try the one-of-a-kind concoction, East Village will be giving away 250 free milkshakes throughout the day.
The creation is available exclusively at the E20 Street Food Market from 12pm – 6pm on Saturday 31 July. For those not brave enough to try the milkshake, more than a dozen other food stands and trucks offer everything from Sri Lankan, Italian, Lebanese and Thai cuisine to pulled meat wraps, pizza, burgers, bagels and cinnamon buns. There’s also a bar for those who want to wash down the milkshake with a refreshing beverage.

On Saturday 14 August ‘Dancing in the Moonlight’ stars Toploader headline the annual E20 Summer Fete in Victory Park, running from 12pm – 6pm. Visitors can enjoy a day filled with local music, international street food, craft ale pop-ups and workshop activities as well as all your traditional Summer Fete favourites including fairground rides and games. The E20 Summer Fete will also bring a headline performance from Toploader.

Over the next six months, East Village is hosting its first arts trail with the Rosetta Artist Accelerator scheme, an organisation that helps kickstart the careers of emerging local artists. Residents and visitors can admire work from five of Rosetta Arts’ Accelerator Artists across a number of E20’s independent retailers.

Open to the public from 29 July, Thursday to Sunday, East Village’s new creative hub The Lab E20 will be home to variety of free interactive exhibitions, events and experiences this summer including: a parachute tote workshop delivered by RÆBURN, the sustainable fashion brand behind studio’s design and production; a series of kids t-shirt making sessions, with fun animal print designs using organic materials; an architecture summer school run by D-Lab where students will design habitats on Mars; jewelry making; clothing repair and restore sessions; film screenings, talks and much, much more.
