Actor and model Ramzan shares his first London renting experience

This is an exciting year for British-Bangladeshi 29-year-old actor, dancer, and model Ramzan Miah. Not only did he appear in this summer’s biggest blockbuster, but he has made the move out of his family home in Bedfordshire and into a beautiful studio apartment located in Victory Plaza, at Get Living’s East Village neighbourhood.

As a first-time renter, Ramzan has fallen in love with the freedom, community and lifestyle that renting with Get Living has offered him and has been enjoying the buzz and amenities of East London.

Why Get Living?

Ramzan, who played one of the Ken’s in Greta Gerwig’s Barbie and has appeared on Strictly Come Dancing, Rocketman and Disney’s Aladdin, was drawn to the sense of community and ease that a Get Living neighbourhood could provide:

“I’d heard about Get Living before I moved to East Village. A few of my friends live in East London and were talking about the area very positively, so I was drawn to the idea of a close-knit community within the big city environment – particularly as I’m so new to London.

“Life is extremely busy at the moment and renting with Get Living was just so easy. My home is fully furnished, and it was amazing to just turn up and feel settled and comfortable from day one.”

The move is a significant milestone for Ramzan, leaving his family home, and he felt East London offered him the best of both worlds:

“I’ve always been a family person. I’m the youngest sibling and my parents are a bit older, so I was always hesitant to move.  But once I found East Village, I realised that it could provide the freedom and access to London I need for myself and for my career, while still being able to travel home to Bedfordshire so easily.

“I’m already feeling the impact of the move; my career has developed because I have the freedom and space to be creative and express myself as well as socialise and connect with brands – it’s all thanks to living here!”

A sense of community

Ramzan already feels at home in his new neighbourhood and is enjoying getting to know his neighbours and throwing himself into local groups and activities:

“I was worried that living in a big city like London would be lonely and I wouldn’t feel a sense of community compared with where I have grown up.  I was a bit daunted by it, but I couldn’t have been more wrong – within four weeks I already feel settled in East Village and have even made a few friends.

“Get Living have an app which connects you with gym classes and local groups and it has made meeting people so easy! East Village feels so safe, which was really important to me in my first home living by myself.  There’s 24-hour security and a concierge who is always willing to help. The fact that all of these extras are included in my rental package is just amazing.”

East London living

So far, life in East London is exceeding all of Ramzan’s expectations and he’s enjoying the area’s wealth of shops and restaurants, as well as the emphasis on wellbeing and leisure amenities – including joining the local running club:

“There’s a 5km running route we do, and you get to run all around East London – through the village and also all the green spaces like the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and the Wetlands, which you really wouldn’t expect in a big city! Parts of it don’t even feel like you’re in London, and then you finish at the stadium, and it feels like such an achievement.”

“I’m Muslim and I moved into my home really close to Ramadan, so I set about finding a mosque straight away.  I found an East London mosque, which is one of the biggest in the area, only 10-minutes away from my apartment.  It’s so refreshing and rewarding to have everything I need within the community.

“I’m a bit of a shopaholic so I spend a lot of time in Westfield Stratford City. It has all the high street brands you need, plus there is an amazing cinema to catch the latest releases, which helps feed my passion for film and the arts.

“There are great independent options on the doorstep as well. I’m a regular at Signorelli’s Bakehouse in East Village and I love it.  It’s organic, fresh and you can see how everything is made.  The people are also the friendliest too!

“When I do want to leave East London, the transport links are phenomenal.  The Elizabeth Line now takes you straight from Stratford to Tottenham Court Road and the West End in under 20 minutes.  That’s where everything happens for my job from acting roles and castings to content creation and modelling – and now my commute is so easy!

“It’s one of the best-connected locations in London with the Jubilee and Central Underground lines, the DLR, Overground services and the high-speed train.  I can get to King’s Cross in seven minutes and then 20 minutes to Luton to see my family.  It’s perfect.”

Premium finishings

From studios to four-bedroom apartments, homes in Victory Plaza come fully furnished, curated by Danish designer BoConcept, and are expertly designed to optimise space, natural light and to capture elevated views with floor to ceiling windows. It’s provided the perfect canvas for Ramzan to make his home his own:

“I fell in love with my apartment the second I walked in. It’s like I’m staying in a hotel but it’s homely and cosy. It’s the best of both!

“I love the base aesthetic and design, which has made it really easy to decorate my apartment and add my own personal touches. My favourite part of the apartment is the bathroom. It’s so modern, clean and high spec, which is exactly what I need for my job and content creation when shooting around the apartment. I have a bath and the shower is amazing – so it’s nice to treat myself after a long day at work!

Stress-free move

Ramzan credits the Get Living team for guiding him through his home move and making it so straightforward: “I thought moving home was going to be really stressful, but the communication was so quick and transparent and there was always someone to help with questions.

“It continued when I had picked up my keys as well.  When I moved in there was one light bulb that was out and all I had to do was send a message and they got someone in to fix it straight away. The service is exceptional and something I wouldn’t get anywhere else. The monthly cost is so worth it when you get so much more as part of your rent.”
