Famed TV show Mad Men has long inspired fans and imitators in the fashion world with its glamour. And with the final series back on our screens in April, it’s time for interiors to also take the Mad Men route as Londoners are able to replicate the bold aesthetic of Don Draper’s apartment with a touch of 1960’s timeless chic.
For new residents of Get Living London’s private rental homes at East Village (London’s newest neighbourhood and the former London 2012 Athletes’ Village), the look is an easy one to replicate. The residential owner has has appointed acclaimed designers Wayne Hemingway MBE, Gerardine Hemingway MBE and Tilly Hemingway to lead the furnishing and interior design for its range of homes, and to create a series of stylish furnishing packages for those renting the new homes.
Packages include statement pieces from the G Plan Vintage label, designed by Tilly Hemingway for the iconic British furniture brand. Inspired by the G Plan archive from the 50s and 60s, the collection brings a modern twist to vintage designs.
Wayne Hemingway explains the rising popularity of the vintage look for homes:
“From being something that was pretty underground, the concept of vintage is now increasing in popularity but there are still many who just don’t get it. Vintage is not the same as retro so steer clear of cartoon interior design a la Austin Powers!
“Vintage is about looking at timeless elements of design and finding and creating an enduring style. Great design can be totally timeless. On a macro scale the Southbank’s magnificent Royal Festival Hall still looks as magnificent today as it did when it was constructed for the Festival of Britain in 1951. This is partly a result of great design thinking in the first place with judicious updating and modern interventions.
“That ‘old meets new’ aesthetic is a wonderful way of creating an interesting home and helps to avoid the vagaries of fashion when it comes to interior design. This approach results in spaces that are full of interesting stories. By bringing vintage styling to London’s newest neighbourhood, our furniture packages for Get Living London achieve a perfect blend of ‘old meets new’.”
Together with high-quality furnishings hand-picked by HemingwayDesign, renters at Get Living London’s new homes also needn’t worry about missing the return of Mad Men thanks to a special partnership with Sky TV. Renters can enjoy a special half price offer on Sky’s TV Entertainment pack which features over 35 channels, including Sky Atlantic – the home of the new series of Mad Men. Sky will ensure the service is installed before residents move in, ensuring great TV is ready to go the moment renters arrive.
