Hyperoptic scoops award for bringing fastest broadband
to Get Living homes

October 15, 2018

Get Living is celebrating with Hyperoptic after the broadband provider picked up the Innovation Award at the 2018 London Infrastructure Awards for its record-breaking trial in our East Village neighbourhood.

We partnered with the UK’s largest gigabit broadband provider earlier this year to provide a first glimpse of the fastest home broadband the country has ever seen.

Touching 10Gb symmetrical download and upload speeds, the pilot with Hyperoptic saw a HD movie downloaded in just four seconds, demonstrating speeds some 276x faster than the average UK consumer receives today.

It was the first time it had been brought to a UK home and used an existing ISP network, not a new, dedicated line.

The Innovation Award recognises innovation in infrastructure planning, design and delivery – to put London at the international cutting edge.

Steve Holford, Chief Customer Officer at Hyperoptic, says: “We carried out this trial to push the limits in terms of what’s possible for residential broadband, to raise awareness of the crucial role that digital infrastructure has on our everyday lives and to the overall success of London.”

Christian Armstrong, Chief Experience Officer at Get Living, adds: “As a pioneer in the build-to-rent sector we are always looking at how we can improve the renting experience for our residents through innovation.

“We know from our own research that internet speed is one of the most important factors when choosing where to live – almost a third of 21 to 35-year-olds cited it as a decision maker.

“The opportunity to deliver the fastest home broadband in one of our neighbourhoods was something we were very excited about and we’re thrilled for Hyperoptic to have been recognised with this accolade.”
